We offer two basic types of plants, hybrids and mericlones.
Hybrids - Pollen from one parent is used on the other to produce a cross or hybrid. The resulting seed is planted in out laboratory and produces seedlings which will flower when they mature. No two seedlings will be exactly alike, and some crosses will show more variation than others. We use the finest parent plants available and our years of experience to produce hybrids of predictable high quality. Flowering these seedlings is like opening gifts - you don't know exactly what to expect.
Mericlones - Mericlones are produced by selecting a blooming plant of outstanding quality, taking tissue from that plant, and multiplying that tissue in the laboratory to produce multitudes of identical plants. Mericlones are indicated by an "M" prefix before the number. With mericlones, you know what you are getting. Mericlones usually cost more, because of the increased expense of production.
We use some symbols and terms in descriptions throughout our catalog. We indicate orchids that are particularly well suited to growing under lamps or on a windowsill with *L*. We indicate flowering season with (W) for Winter, (Sp) for Spring, (Su) for Summer, (F) for Fall and (V) for Various. We refer to orchids that should bloom in season within 12 months as "Blooming Size" and those that should bloom in season within 18 months as "Near Blooming Size".
