Zygopetalum Debbie de Mello 'Honolulu Baby'
This unusual and brightly colored orchid will make a great addition to most collections. Lush green foliage emerges from the thick, round pseudo-bulbs and will drop after a few years. The bulbs will continue to provide food and water for the plant for several growing seasons after that, with new growth each spring and early summer. Strong, upright stems hold a number of green, chocolate and indigo-purple blooms with a spicy-sweet scent. Flowers will stay fresh on the stems for several weeks, many times lasting up to two months.
We recommend growing these in intermediate conditions (65-85 degrees), though they can tolerate short spells of warmer weather, if extra air flow is given. Roots should be kept damp but not soggy and grown in well draining media at all times. Plants easily adapt to different potting medias, varying from fir bark to sphagnum moss, as long as the mix is not allowed to sour. Fertilize approximately once per month year round, using a high nitrogen fertilizer only in the spring and early summer.
We have limited quantities of plants growing in 4" pots with buds already visible to soon. JUMBO SIZED PLANTS! Blooms will be very similar to the photo shown, expect petals are solid colored instead of spotted.
