Vandopsis gigantea
(parent plant shown in bloom)
A very rare, and large growing species native to warm regions of Southeast Asia. Related to Vandas, these seedlings will need plenty of bright, indirect light and lots of airflow. We do not grow them in slat baskets as the roots prefer something to stabilize them. Ours are in a well draining media with large fir bark and expanded shale. Even so, they are pushing themselves up from the pots! Recommended for warm to hot growers. This doesn't like the cold and hates being repotted.
Pendant stems of yellow blooms with reddish markings. Usually in the late winter to early spring. Flowers are very long-lasting, usually about 4-6 weeks.
These seedlings are still young but doing well in 3.5" pots. Leaf-span averages 6"-8" across. These are 3+ years from flowering size. DO NOT REPOT THESE ANYTIME SOON.
