A fantastic species that hails from southeast Asia. Originally the most common forms available were light yellow, ivory or even pale golden in color. Newer breeding has brought forth extremely bold orange colored petals along with vibrant green lip coloring. Amazing sweet fragrance that will fill the room or greenhouse. Mature plants will be compact, usually around a foot tall.
Growing Suggestions: This species is a study in contrast in regards to light and temperature. It needs extremely bright, indirect light to grow and flower well, yet its native environment reports that most summer days have significant cloud cover. This protects from direct sunlight, which will burn the foliage. Considered a warm grower, although the altitude these are endemic to can reach near freezing temperatures in winter months and soar to triple digits in the summer. We have found the best is a range of 65°-90° F, with plenty of humidity and airflow at all times. Plants should be cultivated in baskets that allow the roots to grow freely. In warmer months, we water or mist daily while during the winter light moisture is given 3-4 times per week to avoid dehydration.
The plants offered are in 2" mesh pots, and expected to reach first flowering in 1-2 years.
Unless otherwise stated, please understand that bloom photos show mature sized plants not what those offered currently look like.
These beautiful plants were provided by our friends at a wholesale orchid nursery in Hawaii. Because we did not raise them in our greenhouses, we can not guarantee them to be virus free as we would our own lab grown material. Otherwise, we guarantee your satisfaction and safe delivery as with other plant purchases.
